Places for Bikes Project

Chehalem Park and Recreation District (CPRD) is actively working on exploring and identifying whether potential sites exist in park properties for bike riding enthusiasts to pursue outdoor recreation in their chosen hobby. The Board of Directors has directed staff to try to find a place for bikes in the District.

Staff is working to identify the greatest needs within the bike community -- age groups and skill levels, types of experiences  and uses that are desired and needed -- and to determine whether any existing park properties would be suitable.

At the 2025 Open House events, bike-riding enthusiasts discussed these topics and more, and engaged staff in discussion on potential sites of interest, including Ewing Young Park Trails, Gettman Loop Trail at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course, and Schaad Park Trails.

Bike riders used trails at Bob and Crystal Rilee Park Trails until the Chehalem Park and Recreation District Board of Directors limited trail use there to hikers and equestrians only, in Sept. 2023, then again confirming this decision with adoption of the master plan for that park in August 2024. Since then, bike riders have continued to express interest in working with CPRD to help identify potential alternative opportunities.
