Popular 46-acre Ewing Young Park and its mile-long walking trail (created by CPRD) is comprised of two parcels. CPRD is seeking to build a bridge across Chehalem Creek in order to access 11 undeveloped acres located on the west side of Chehalem Creek for maintenance, emergency, and recreation purposes. Plans for that portion include an additional .55-mile proposed trail and expansion of the disc golf course.

Site Description
The property is located within the 100-year floodplain and is subject to backwater flooding from the Willamette river during flooding. Development within the floodplain is limited, but it can be used for public trails, birdwatching, residential access, and disc golf expansion. The location of the bridge was selected based on topography, width of crossing, and proximity to existing and future trail access.

Cost Estimates & Expenses
Updated July 2023: The cost estimate for construction of this bridge that staff had gathered in 2022 is between $215,000 to $254,000 for construction. CPRD has spent $92,682 on engineering and design.

Milestones
Environmental Site analysis and masterplan were completed in 2018-2019.
Preliminary discussions with City of Newberg and Yamhill County Planning Departments began in 2018.
CPRD, together with WHPacific, held a public meeting on the future of the park in November 2017.
