Important Information for Parents & Swimmers on Winter Swim Lessons 2020-2021

Three packages

  1. Small Group (3 students): Twice a week, Tue/Thu (3 weeks), 30-minute lessons
  2. Small Group (3 students): Once a week Fri (4 weeks), 45-minutes lessons
  3. Private Lessons (1 student: Lessons will be scheduled by management and can be once a week for 4 weeks or twice a week for three weeks 

Pandemic protocols 

  • Social distancing is observed
  • Instructor teaches from the deck
  • Parent-aid acts as the instructor/student interface
  • Level 4, 4/5, 5/6 do not require a parent interface (parents may wait in the lobby or outside) 
  • No spectators permitted

Flow Chart

  • Swimmers are to arrive 6 minutes prior to the swim lesson to be processed 
  • Swimmers are to wear masks to enter/exit the facility
  • Swimmers are to arrive and depart in their swim attire (locker rooms are not available)
  • Swimmers will bypass the reception desk and walk to the entrance hallway; please remove shoes before entering the pool area
  • Contact tracing, health screening and temp check will take place at the pool door
  • Swimmers will be given a cone color and number for the week
  • Swimmers will make their way to the appropriate cone/chair with their belongings
  • Swimmers will shower and return to their chairs for the safety topic; once the safety topic has been completed, at the direction of the instructor, the children will sit in front of the appropriate cone on the deck and wait for parents to enter the water; no student or parent will enter the water until the instructor gives the go ahead. 
  • Lesson will take place; once complete the swimmers will promptly climb out of the water. Parents (not students) may use the stairs or the ladders to exit the pool. 
  • Swimmers will return to their chair, towel dry etc, don their masks and exit the pool via the double doors adjacent to the lazy river … shoes are to be carried to the exit doors

Parent Involvement

  • Parent will act as an extension of the instructor aiding the child in learning skills presented
  • Parent will engage with the child keeping them focused and practicing the specified skill until the instructor moves to a new skill
  • Parent will take the information and correction from the instructor and help the swimmer to put info into action 
  • Parent will support novice swimmers as directed by the instructor being very aware of the water level on the swimmer’s face 
  • Parent will make sure their path of movement within the water keeps them socially distant from other students (lining up the travel flow with their deck cone)
  • Parents will be responsible for the swimmer’s safety while at the facility as well as in the water

Instructor Involvement

  • Instructor will provide the safety topic of the day prior to entering the pool
  • Instructor will be responsible for providing the lesson plan each day
  • Instructor will teach predominately from the deck. Instructor may or may not get into the water to give skill demonstration (while remaining socially distant)
  • Instructor is not to make physical contact with the swimmer
