CPRD installs owl boxes
Thanks to the efforts of a local high school student, parks staff have installed our first-ever owl boxes in two locations: at the edge of the PCC practice fields off Fernwood (behind the clubhouse at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course), and along the walking path at Crater Park.
Student Tyson Roque built the boxes at Newberg High School, under supervision of woodshop teacher Bryan Long. CPRD appreciates their efforts and generosity.
These habitat boxes are designed to attract local Barn Owls to make their homes in them. Owls help maintain the grounds for park and recreation activities by reducing the burrowing rodent population which can create trip hazards with their holes.
If you see the raised boxes as pictured, please be aware that there may be nocturnal owls inside, and give them space.
