Chehalem Skatepark at Ewing Young Park to be closed for resurfacing and repairs

Newberg's famous skatepark is getting a surface make-over this summer. Chehalem Park and Recreation District (CPRD) has hired Aero Concrete LLC to complete the repair work, for the amount of $30,000. The closure will be done in two phases. The first phase involves filling the cracks and rough spots; park officials estimate that some sections of the skatebowl will be closed for this phase for about a week, beginning Monday, July 21; however, some sections of the bowl will remain open for skating during this phase. After that, in the second phase, the entire bowl will be closed down for roughly another week for overall sealing.

Why is CPRD doing this? The surface is in need of repair as cracks and rough patches in the concrete have taken a toll over time. These spots will first be pressure-washed and dried, then filled with silica sand and a two-part epoxy product. Cement will be used on the larger patches. These raised fillers will then be ground down to be flush with the rest of the surface. Finally, the entire surface will be pressure-washed, and sealed with a product that is favored for skateparks.

The closure will not affect the rest of Ewing Young Park - the Chehalem BMX track, disc golf course, or the dog park. Thank you to all of our skating enthusiasts for your patience while these improvements are being made.
