Closure Policy for CARE and Preschool

Preschool Closure Policy

We observe the same holidays, snow days, and school closures as the Newberg School District. Check the weather information on the local radio stations or by calling the District Registration Office at 503.537.2909. The first three special/weather cancelation days will not be made up. All others will be made up at the end of the year. Please refer to the preschool calendar concerning holidays, vacations, and school closure days.

CARE Childcare Closure Policy

CARE is closed on all federal holidays- Labor Day, Veteran's Day, MLK Day, President's Day and Memorial Day.

The C.A.R.E. program is designed to offer a safe, healthy and happy environment for your child. Because of this philosophy, we must also keep in mind the safety of your child when the Newberg Public Schools and First Student Transportation decides that it is unsafe to travel due to weather conditions. Therefore, we will cancel all regular C.A.R.E. sites if public schools close due to ice/snow or other inclement weather.

Please check the local snow line at 503.538.5897 or 503.554.5001 or listen to the local forecast on the radio or T.V. stations for school closure information. You may also contact our aquatic center office after 5:30 a.m. at 503.538.7454 or 503.537.2909 to get updated information. There will be no credit given for up to the first thee weather-related C.A.R.E/school closure days. Credit will be given for any additional closure days due to inclement weather.

School closure sometimes is for only a two-hour delay. In this instance, we will try to open C.A.R.E at all sites at the regular time, but will keep the children the extra time in the morning at the site at no additional cost to you.

If schools begin normally and then close due to weather, you will be contacted by Newberg School District that this is occurring. You will be asked to pick up your child as early as possible. C.A.R.E staff will not open the after school site unless requested to by the school. The schools will decide this based on weather conditions.
