Schaad Park

 .

  • The longest slide in Oregon! Stainless steel 30'
  • Schaad Park Loop Trail zig zags nearly a mile up a steep hill to an outstanding view.

Walter Robert Schaad bequeathed this parcel of land and funds to develop this park in commemoration of the Schaad family. Schaad Park was officially dedicated on May 16, 2013.

The Schaads were originally from Germany, and the name begins with the arrival of Gottlieb Schaad in 1901, followed by his two brothers, August and Wilhelm, in 1902.

The brothers settled not far from here, on Rex /hill, where they farmed, raised large families, and became an integral part of the Newberg community.

The Schaad family has also produced construction superintendents, timber brokers, wheat farmers, bankers, and schoolteachers, to name but a few of the contributions they have made to this community.

One teacher, Lewis Schaad, was named Oregon Science Teacher of the Year in the 1980s.

Lewis’s dad Clarence monitored the weather on Rex Hill for the National Weather Service for over 50 years. His trademark was the white hat he wore all of his adult life.

Today at Schaad Park, enjoy an outstanding view, a nature-based playground, a 30’ stainless steel slide, and walking paths through restored Oak Savannah, featuring native roses.
