We are pleased to announce that Chehalem Park and Recreation District and Newberg High School Basketball will partner to form the Newberg Travel Basketball teams for the 2023-24 season.

The goal of Newberg Travel team Basketball is to promote and support competitive basketball in the Newberg community.  

We will strive to create a positive team environment, while focusing on fundamental basketball skills and the development of competitive basketball habits. 

 

Girls Travel Team Tryout Information:

  • Sunday, October 15 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Newberg High Gymnasium.​
  • Tryouts will be at no cost to participants however, players must be registered to tryout on October 15th.
  • There will be a make-up tryout on Wednesday, October 18 from 7-8pm at NHS.

What To Expect at Tryouts:

  • Registration confirmation and tryout number assignments.  Players will receive number to place on shorts during tryout. 
  • Each girl will have a photo taken for team selection process by NHS Girl's Basketball Staff
  • Please plan to attend parent meeting after tryouts to explain team selection process and answer questions regarding the 2023-24 season. 

 

Season Information:

Newberg Travel teams will compete in tournaments on the weekends in the Portland Metro area and occasionally select tournaments in Salem, Seaside, Corvallis and surrounding areas.

With CPRD’s guidance, coaches will self-schedule tournaments over the course of the season suitable for each team.

Newberg Travel Basketball rules require all players in grades 4-8 reside within the Newberg School District boundary to be eligible for the 2023-24 season.   

Each player must attend the tryout date on Sunday, October 15 from 5:00-7:00pm to be eligible to participate in the Newberg Travel Basketball Program. 

Players will be independently evaluated by NHS coaching staff at tryouts; team placement not guaranteed on Travel teams. 

 

Practices:

Newberg Travel Basketball teams typically practice 2-3 days a week in Newberg School District gymnasiums.

Practices will begin the first week in November and will be scheduled based on the head coaches preference. 

 

Cost:

Player fees for the Newberg Travel Basketball are $325 for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Fees for participation in the Newberg Travel Basketball cover:

  • 6 Tournaments Fees
  • Game uniform
  • Shooting shirt
  • Reversible practice jersey
  • Insurance for each participant

Participants will keep all gear they are issued (uniform, practice jersey and shooting shirt).
